Are you a nature lover planning a retreat to the enchanting Dahlonega region? If so, prepare to be astounded! Nestled in the heart of the North Georgia mountains, our luxurious Dahlonega bed and breakfast serves as an ideal launchpad for your adventure, with over 100 picturesque waterfalls waiting to be discovered. In this blog post, we’ll steer you toward some of our favorite north Georgia waterfall hikes you can undertake during your visit.

DeSoto Falls
Located a mere 7 miles from the inn, DeSoto Falls Recreation Area offers a plethora of year-round activities, including fishing, picnicking, and scenic hikes to adjacent waterfalls. The DeSoto Falls Trail provides a double delight with lower and upper falls available for your admiration. The trail, an easy day hike, commences at the bridge by the Lower Falls, just 0.25 miles downstream from the lower loop of the campground, with the Upper Falls lying 0.75 miles upstream from this spot. Innkeeper Tip: The recently constructed observation deck makes for an ideal picnic spot, allowing you to relish the waterfall’s grandeur.

Amicalola Falls State Park
Just 17 miles from our inn, Amicalola Falls State Park is a nature lover’s wonderland. The park boasts the spectacular 729-foot Amicalola Falls, the tallest waterfall in Georgia and the third-highest cascading waterfall on the eastern side of the Mississippi River. Several hiking routes are available for exploration; however, for an accessible day hike, we recommend the Amicalola Falls Trail. This popular one-mile trek leads to the crest of this colossal waterfall before descending alongside the falls via footbridges and stairways. Innkeeper Tip: To avoid the crowds, consider embarking on this trail early in the day or midweek.

Raven Cliff Falls
Though slightly more remote, a 35-minute drive will bring you to the remarkable Raven Cliff Falls. Situated in White County, this waterfall flows along a creek that converges with Dodd Creek. It showcases three drops, including a unique double cascade trickling through a fissure in a massive granite outcrop. The hike to the falls is approximately 5 miles round trip, granting splendid views of the valley and creek below. Innkeeper Tip: For those seeking an extra dose of adventure, consider stopping by Dukes Creek Falls, a one-mile paved trail located just south of the Raven Cliff Falls trailhead on GA 348. Not only do these hikes provide stunning waterfall views, but they’re also a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Georgia’s natural beauty, spot local wildlife, and enjoy a day of physical activity.
